Boeing Co. informed the Seattle Times newspaper on Monday that it anticipates eliminating around 2,000 white-collar employees in finance and human resources this year through a combination of layoffs and attrition.

The Virginia-based corporation revealed this month that it would eliminate some support positions while adding 10,000 new employees by 2023.

Boeing said at the time that it will "lower staffing within some support functions" in order to better allocate resources to support current products and technological advancement.

A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by Boeing.

Boeing announced last year that it intended to eliminate roughly 150 financial positions in the United States in order to streamline its corporate structure and direct more resources into production and product development.
