Hyderabad: December 10, 2022: Synchrony (NYSE: SYF), a premier consumer financial services company, organized a blood donation drive on the 9th of December in collaboration with the Red Cross and Sattva at the Salarpuria Sattva Knowledge City to support patients being treated at the Military Hospital, Secunderabad. The community event obtained 200+ pints of blood to support both the hospital and Thalassemia afflicted children. Dr. (Smt.) Tamilisai Soundararajan, Hon’ble Governor of Telangana and Hon’ble Governor of Puducherry inaugurated the drive.

Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder where the patient is affected by lesser hemoglobin and fewer red blood cells. Majorly noticed in children, this disorder manifests with fatigue, slow growth, and weakness. Severe cases need blood transfusion every 21 days to ensure survival. India has an estimated 100,000 children affected by Thalassemia, but only few are optimally managed – which is why there is an urgent need for affordable means of treatment. Nearly 1000 such patients are registered in the Red Cross blood bank, and every day blood transfusions are extended free of charge to 30-40 children.

Speaking about the initiative, Kameswari Gangadharabhatla, Vice President – Human Resources – Asia Diversity & Recruitment COE Leader, said, “Medical care depends on availability of resources and the pandemic has further reinforced the importance of having top-notch health infrastructure. Aiming to bring a positive change in society and impacting several young lives affected by Thalassemia, this blood donation drive seeks to ensure that patients do not have to deal with a shortage in supply. Synchrony’s Veterans Network+ has always been committed to the betterment of the community and continues to put in efforts toward improving the quality of life for every member of society. We are truly humbled to partner with the Red Cross and Sattva on this important initiative, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to them for this collaboration.”

Dr. (Smt.) Tamilisai Soundararajan, Hon’ble Governor of Telangana and Hon’ble Governor of Puducherry upon inaugurating the event highlighted the significance of blood donation and appreciated this collaboration between Synchrony, Sattva, and Red Cross to support military veterans and young children. She also reminisced and shared anecdotes about blood donation requirements from her medical experience and urged everyone to donate blood to save lives.

Adding to that, Piyush Agarwal, Business Head, Sattva said that the most generous donation is a Blood Donation and thanked all the blood donors who had actively participated in this donation drive organized by Synchrony in association with Sattva & Red Cross aimed at meeting the requirements of Military hospital. He also said, Sattva will always be at the forefront in supporting humanitarian initiatives which will be of great help in saving lives. “We thank our Hon'ble Governer of Telangana - Dr.(Smt) Tamilisai Soundararajan for gracing and inaugurating the event.,” Piyush said.

Col, Ramesh from Sainik Welfare Organisation (SWO) says, "Donating blood is like a cow, donating milk for the humankind", when a cow gives milk, it does not ask whether you are preventing its child from getting it or whether the owner is selling it or the caste and creed of the person whom it reaches ultimately”. He is thrilled to support the blood donation drive.
