Since the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) failed to suspend the ownership transfer as requested by lenders, Jalan-Kalrock consortium, Jet Airways' successful resolution applicant, is reportedly preparing to order 200 jets for the carrier.
According to Livemint, who cited sources, the order may be announced in June. According to the source, the consortium is in talks with OEMs to place an order for at least 200 aircraft, a mix of small, medium, and large narrow body jets, at the Paris air show in June.
The partnership is aiming to order a variety of aircraft, taking into account the country's market potential, which is itself a mix of urban areas and smaller cities.
Prior to the lenders' opposition, the airline had previously stated that it would make a sizable order with Boeing and Airbus.
The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLTjudgment )'s from January 13 that authorised the sale of bankrupt Jet Airlines to the Jalan Kalrock consortium and extended the winning bidder's time to meet creditors' obligations was not appealed by the NCLAT. The NCLAT ruled that lenders must immediately begin carrying out the resolution plan.
This development comes after Air India placed a sizable order for 470 aircraft with Airbus and Boeing, including 210 Airbus A320/321 Neos, 190 Boeing 737 MAX single-aisle, 40 Airbus A350, 20 Boeing 787, and 10 Boeing 777-9 widebody aircraft.
